News from Katrina Porteous

Hello and welcome. I am a poet, local historian and broadcaster, based on the north Northumberland coast, and this site replaces my old website.

I’ll post news and advance notice of events, so you can keep up with things as they happen. Here are a few things to look out for in the second half of 2016:

SUN – My main project for 2016 is to work with Northumbria University Solar Physics, Think Physics and digital composer Peter Zinovieff, to create a half-hour poetry and surround-sound music collaboration for Life Planetarium in November.

SUN by Peter Zinovieff and Katrina Porteous. World Premiere November 18th, Friday Night Life, Life Planetarium, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4EP.  Visuals by Christopher Hudson. Online advance ticket £8, on the door £10.

For those interested in arranging a performance of either of the earlier Zinovieff-Porteous planetarium pieces, Edge and Field, these can be staged anywhere with surround-sound and flat-screen visuals. Please contact me via Bloodaxe Books for details.

Our 2011 collaboration, Horse, is available from Windmillsteads Books as a limited-edition book and CD, beautifully illustrated by Olivia Lomenech Gill. £45 including postage.

Conversations on a Bench – I am working with Anna and Adam Fowler of Overtone Productions on a radio programme featuring the voices of people who visit or live in the Northumbrian village of Beadnell – all  recorded on a bench overlooking the harbour. The programme will include new poetry about Beadnell Bay and will go out on Radio 4 in the autumn. Details to follow.

Two Countries at Berwick Literary FestivalSunday, October 23rd, noon, Guildhall, Berwick upon Tweed. I’ll be performing poems from my latest Bloodaxe collection, Two Countries, with brilliant young Northumbrian piper, Alice Burn. Tickets £5
